Thankful For My S
So, the other day I was driving on the interstate on my way back to my dorms from autocross when I had an interesting thought, "I wonder if autocross actually has an impact on street driving?". Shortly after this thought (about 5 seconds to be exact) the Ford Explorer that had cut me off earlier slammed on its brakes in front of me. Traffic had come to a standstill ahead and I guess the Explorer had not seen it till the last minute. I had been looking away at the moment that this had happened and somehow I was able to know that I needed to look in front of me and before I knew it I was 10 feet away and closing on the Ford with my right foot heavy on the brakes. I ended up less than 5 feet away from the Explorer and with another reason to be thankful for this car (I got a pretty quick answer to my question haha). I am not sure what the outcome would've been if I was in my previous IS300. Anyway, I am very grateful for MY02 and thought I'd ask you guys, have you all had any close encounters in your s2k that left you thankful to own an S? Post 'em up!

Were you on stock brakes? Sometimes I feel like they don't have as much stopping power as I would like. Though I haven't slammed on them yet. Just standard 80mph to slow down stops, it just felt a bit weak. Maybe I need new brakes? lol

i was taking on off ramp at a very good amount of speed at about 2 in the morning one night and when i rounded the bend, a family of deer was in the middle of the road...managed to avoid bambi and his mom and dad and still keep control...i almost shit myself to say the least
Ill share two examples, one where my S2000 had my back, and one where I had my S2000's back
First one was my driving error. I accelerated quick out of a parking lot (but not to the point of speeding) and came up quick on a pickup truck. It happens he came to a complete DEAD stop without signaling to make a turn, I wasnt expecting him to brake so rapidly and just thought he was slowing down. Either way with me accelerating quick and him braking quick the distance between us diminished rapidly. I hit the brakes harder than I ever have to the point where I was so close I couldnt see his trailer ball anymore...fortunatly it didnt end up in my bumper, phew.
My second instance took place on my way home from the track so my reflexes were at their peak. I was driving home at night time with my gf and we were just chatting away. All of a sudden in the middle of my sentence a racoon runs across the road DIRECTLY in front of my car. Mid sentence I make a smooth and flawless reaction manouver around the racoon...and continue my conversation with my gf. It literally had not even occurred to me and processed in my conscious mind what had just happend. My gf stopped me in my sentence white as a ghost and said "did you not just realise what happend?!". Finally it hit me, and I realised that had I not made that instant reaction I probably would have had a nice big hole through my rad. It shocked me how "natural" it felt and was like a slow motion movie. The racoon was literally nothing other than a flash infront of me and yet the handling of the car allowed me to avoid it completely and remarkably so smoothly that it didnt upset my consentration one bit lol
Ps- tribute is also due to our amazing headlights.
I love my car

^ Yeah, my s2k has never given me any reason to complain about the brakes. If you go out and try autocross, you'll soon realize that the S has great braking potential. Or at least that was the case with me
