Is there any blindspot on the left side of the car
Yeah there is a small blind spot w/top up.
If you do a head check and lean forward and to the side of the car you can see most of where you're blind area is. I don't know how well a convex mirror helps, I'm sure it would eliminate it. I just pay enough attention to what is going on behind me at all times that no one comes up unexpected.
*edit* Does not mean I don't do head checks. I'm a habitial head checker, it drives me nuts when I watch people change lanes on the spree w/out it. IMO if you are unable to do a head check you should not be allowed to drive. Not directed at poster, directed at older or overly obese people, or the lazy, or the incompetent.

Not if you adjust it all the way out. Most people like to see the side of their own car in the mirror, but this is a mistake. You want to adjust it out so that as the car to your left is leaving your rear view mirror, you can see the front of their car in the side view, and this is all the way out on my car. It's a bit disconcerting until you get used to it and trust it, but it works.
This also works for the right side, but on mine it's slightly in from the maximum out position.

And head checks are just dangerous - taking your eyes off the road, and turning your head all the way around at speed (and in traffic) is a dangerous thing to do. I usually check my (properly aligned) mirrors by leaning forward to catch any blind spot, and squirt the throttle when changing jik someone is sitting in the S's miniscule blind spot.
What VoIPA said is correct - you don't need to see your own car, you already know its there. Match your mirrors so you eliminate the space b/w the center and the sides, and you'll be good to go.
A great many people find one of these to be the solution...
