How soon people forget. The source for the "Automatic S2000", if we were to believe the original article, is none other than Honda itself. There was a lot of discussion on this board when the "Honda announced that their S2000 ... 6 speed ZF auto" announcement came out (way back in Oct. 26, 2000). Unfortunately, the original article at Auto ASCII is no longer there. But we do have a cache of that article right here in one of our own threads:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...?threadid=50220

And if you don't believe that the content is real, here are a couple of Google cached copies of those articles:

http://64.58.76.136/search/cache?p=honda+s...4.com/auto24/e/
http://64.58.76.136/search/cache?p=honda+s...99_28.html%3fsm]www.autoascii.jp/auto24/e/2001/1026/e28nsh_ki9999_28.html%3fsm]http://64.58.76.136/search/cache?p=honda+s...99_28.html%3fsm[/URL]

So although Honda announced it, they haven't brought it out yet. An automatic S2000 is not a new idea, it's been discussed since the first model came out. If you are interested in more of the "S2000 with automatic transmission" discussions, just do a search on this board and you'll read many more threads on it.

S9000 clearly you don't know much about investment banking and institutional sales and trading. For traders cars are a legendary factor of the job, yes people take the underground in when they are an analyst and aren't earning enough to drive their M3 or whatever in. If you are any good ina front office role, particularly as a trader you will have a decent car and when you drive into the City in the morning you see Ferraris, Porsche's, they are ten a penny. Walk into Goldman Sachs' car park, you will see a few million pounds/dollars of cars in the car park, and guess what, most will be automatic. I don't have a single person on my desk who takes public transport to work, just to correct you you are clearly misinformed, but living so far away from NYC I'm not surprised. But yes like in all jobs if you are shit you will be in public transport and you won't have the money to get a decent car ever.

Someone up above mentioned that Honda doesn't make good auto. trannies. I couldn't agree more! It seems like an auto really kills performance in any of their cars. There are a few exceptions (TL, CL, NSX, new Accord V6), but mostly on their 4 cylinders the performance suffers greatly.

I don't think Honda will produce S2000's with any sort of auto tranny. They even stopped making the NSX in auto finally.

Sure let's go automatic, and while we're at it, let's push for 12-way power heated seats too. Let's get rid of the convertible too, it really messes up my hair. I guess Honda found out soccer moms and lazy drivers really dig the S2000, but most pass as soon as they find out there's no automatic version with 14 cup-holders. A 2+2, hatchback version would also be sweet. Imagine all the groceries we could carry after we've dropped the kids off at little league.

Maybe when this happens we'll see the S2000 become as popular as the Corvette or (hold my breath) the Mustang.

Here's an option I'd like to see: A manual top, to knock off some of the weight and even smaller seats to keep the lazy, (I can't row my own) lard butts of the lot.

The same people who want an automatic are the ones who can't change their own oil and prefer idiot lights to gauges and anyone who opts for a automatic in a sports car, should seriously start considering a mini-van.

It never ceases to amaze me how many automobile enthusiasts who have never attended a professional driving course of instruction think that any car with an automatic transmission isn't a "real" driver's car. After a career of running up and down steel decks (see sig) and playing basketball for probably two hours/day for 20 years, the knees aren't what they used to be. I could make a case for an SMG but STILL, I opt for manual transmissions but you're damn right, I'd love to see a Ferrari-type paddle operated SMG transmission in my S2000. The DRIVER makes the car, the car doesn't make the driver. This explains why in many cases, an umcomfortable amount of threads I've read in the past talk of S2000's which have spun out in corners. Upon closer investigation, many appeared to have been "encouraged" to do so as a result of sloppy shifting techniques entering or exiting the corner. A car sitting adjacent to a telephone pole isn't very fast nor much fun to drive.

In the right conditions, an SMG wouldn't take away from the S2000 anymore than replacing the gears would. I'll go on record and say probably seven out of 10 drivers in here probably can't "heel and toe" correctly but are still leaning on those who would like the SMG option, claiming the S2000 deserves a manual. It deserves better drivers first. There are plenty of Modena owners who have owned manual tranny sportscars and don't miss the standard tranny. Assuming they're all old farts who don't appreciate a "real" enthusiasts take on things is silly. I dare say many of us could muster a smile driving a red Ferrari, paddle shifter and all.

The original post is about a Tiptronic tranny, not the same as BMW SMG or VW DSG electronic clutch driven tranny.

I would take a SMG style tranny on the S2000 any day of the week. For sure I will be more effective with the S, if the car shifted perfect for me every time.

As far is Tiptronics. If Honda uses one for a future S, it will more than likely blow up. Prelude Triptronics and Acura TL tiptronics had a lot of failures.
