Is there such a thing as the "immobilizer unit"?

Had my car flat bedded to the dealership Tuesday. The service manager called me and said that they needed to order a new "immobilizer unit" and that it would be overnighted so that it can be installed on Wednesday. Just wanted to check to see if I'm being BS'ed or is there really a part referred to as the immobilizer unit.

Thanks -- Tom

Sure is on the UK unit - it's part of the alarm system.

There is a receiver at the key, but as a number of us suggested at the outset of your problem, the processor is the ECM. Either of those units could cause the problem and need replacement.

ISSUE RESOLVED

According to my service rep, my Immobilizer and Transponder were both replaced.

I forgot to look at the work order printout that they gave me last night to see if it listed the actual part numbers that were replaced. I will check when I get home and post the information if it is on the printout.

Thanks for your help.

John, the factory alarm control unit is mounted on a bracket underneath the driver's seat. You should have received an instruction manual for the alarm from the dealer.

The installation instructions are available in PDF format from Trevor's HandA-Accessories Web site: http://www.handa-accessories.com/S2000/s2ksecurity.pdf

I'm still debating on alarms and out of curiosity, what exactly do the sensitivity settings change?

I also just returned from a trip to find the S2000 will not start with any of the 3 keys. It turns over, but will not fire up. Has anyone had success without the trip to dealership? My confidence in the local dealer is very low on this car. HELP!

Mark, on your dash there is a light for the immobilizer. Under normal conditions it blinks for a few seconds then stops. Does your's stop blinking? If not then you may have the same problem that I had.

In my case the dealership had to replace two parts. I've had no trouble since then.

If you local dealership can not figure out the problem, have them give my dealership a call.

Please let us know if your problem ends up being the same as mine.

The immobilizer checks with the chip in the key when you put it in the ignition....if the signal isn't there from the key, the car won't start.
