I am by far not an expert on these things, but I have never had springs in for a length of time without them looking like crap, weather they are working well or not. You might need a little bit more reliable evaluation before deciding that it is your springs....

They dont only look like crap, but take a look at the difference in compression of the coils, looks odd, and would explain the clunking, no?

Should this be moved to Under The Hood forum?

Looks fine to me. Springs will only look identical if the are oriented exactly the same and this is almost never done during installation. In other words, the springs on one side are not facing the viewer the same way that the springs are on the other side. The only way to know for sure is to remove the springs and put them on a spring dyno to get the actual spring specs.

My only experience with springs is when they finally needed to be replaced on my 2001 Honda Civic (100k miles). The front left was clunking at low speeds. Both shocks and springs needed to be replaced. The noise was supposedly the spring rubbing/catching on itself. Thats what I thought of when I saw the rusted area on your spring.

Dont take what I say as gospel. I hardly know squat about suspension. Just a thought for you.

Interesting, I see what you mean. I attempted to inspect them all around to see if the passenger rear had that rust/wear like the driver side did, and there was nothing there. The rust (from the coils actually touching when compressed, i believe) and lack of space between the coils is what concerns me...
