Anectotal evidence:

My 98 integra (owned for 3 years) was broken in to 6 times (stolen aftermarket head unit), completely stolen twice and recovered (minus seats, stereo, and stupid snow chains that I bought a week earlier etc.)

I bought my s2k (among other reasons) because I was tired of my integra being stolen.

I have not a single theft or vandalism problem on my s2k in the year I have had it.

The seats are popular. Be smart and watch where you park your car, and don't leave anything sitting in your car to draw attention, the rest is just luck.

And watch out for your antenna, another popular (even though it's cheap) item.

 

The only really effective defense against seat theft is to garage the car. Almost every S2000 seat theft reported has been from cars that are parked outside regularly overnight. In other words, they happen at houses or apartments.

 

I believe that "fortifying the ECU" referrs to locking down the unit, so a thief can't remove it.

There have been posts on S2Ki stating that S2000s have been stolen by exchanging the ECU, and using a spare or master key coded to the new ECU.

I'm actually working on a nice solution for locking it down.

I have been fortunate enough to put a camera outside my window to watch over my car at night. If it even gets a scratch on it Ill know to check the tape from the previous night. Everyone in my neighborhood knows its there. Which is a good thing. I would say a lot of theft in apartments comes from people in the same building or friends of people who live in the building. I deal with a lot of apts who have security systems where they have caught residents doing crap in the parking garages etc. If in your case you can't do what I did just be logical about things. Park in good areas. At the mall park further and take 2 spots if you can.

 

Rivets work nicely. You can always drill them out if necessary, but thieves don't come equipped for that.
