Is the stock final gear and the Ap2 4.1, and would it be a better to go with the 4.44's or the 4.57's? I'm trying to figure out if going with the 4.57's on n AP2 may be a bit much.

xviper you mentioned that basically a stock AP2 is like aAp1 with 4.44's. So if I was to say put 4.57's in the AP2 wouldI be correct in saying that it would be as if I was putting 4.77's into the AP1?

If so hen I think 4.57' may be a bit much for the AP2, and the better choice might be 4.44's. Any ideas/ suggestions?

you are correct HvRRZ.

the 4.44's in an ap2 will make you perform almost as good as a 4.57 ap1. i agree with you, i think the 4.57 in your ap2 would take away a bit too much top end for my taste.

That is main concern. I do not mind losing a little bit of top end, but I was thinking the 4.57's may sacrifice a bit to much top end for my taste also. Although I I do have to also consider if these gears would go well with my future plans for the car. I am still struggling to decide to go turbo or stay NA. I know they will help a lot if I stay NA, but I'm not sure if they will be good for a turbo.

does the jdm ap2 have the same raito's as the us version?

on the bmi race, they had a ap1 w/ 4.3's race against a ap2, they ap1 out dragged the ap2 on straights and on corner exists by a lot.

* Mainly in the first 4 gears. Honda changed the last 2 gears so the AP2 runs very similar to AP1 with stock gearing.

** It might be much more than 4.77s. Use the Reverend's gear calculator to crunch all the number so you know exactly what you are getting into. I don't recall the precise numbers, but it was closer to 5.0 (in the first 4 gears). 5th and 6th will only be slightly different from AP1 to AP2 with the same final drive gearing.

*** ONLY in the first 4 gears. 5 and 6 will act similar to an AP1 with the same FD. You cannot be a slow shifter or you will lose the advantage that the gearing will give you.

edit: The assumption must be made to allow for drag limited top speed.

if you went with 4.57 in your ap2/f22:

top speed is now 135mph.

1st redlines at: 33mph

2nd: 50mph

3rd: 70mph

4th: 90mph

5th: 110mph

So IMO 4.57 would be pretty short.

Actually I disagree. I have an AP2 transmission, 4.57 Gears on an F20C motor. I have a higher top end because of the 9k redline, but the car is very fun to drive. Also we have a number of customers that have them installed in their AP2s. We have only hear positive coments from them as well.

I am only doing 4500rpm @ 80.
