Default Thinking about purchasing S2K advice. Which year?

Hello,

I'm a newbie on the forum that is interested in purchasing a s2000 for auto x. I believe in 04 they increased to 2.2L but what other minor/major changes was made to this car? Any improvement from 04-07? If not I might as well look at them all.

I had owned two evo's and two nsx in the recent past but never really had a performance fr car except for my E36 M3 way back when. I've heard that the S2000 steering is as responsive as the evo's? For Auto X the evo did alright in AS but that class was dominated by ZR-1 and older vette with large tires. I thought I

i have personally had 2 '02 s2000's and they have never really had any major problems except for the clutch and i have done many auto x's and drag racing. as far as the year you should get, i have loved my ap1 s2ks just cause i love the harsh nature of the suspension and the 9k redline (as opposed to the 04+ s2ks with a 8k redline and softer suspension) but thats just me and im sure alot of peoples opionions will differ.

Thanks for your input. Auto X people say that the 2.2L being faster on the course. I have heard that the downside is being softer but more streetable and less nervous at limits.

The S2k is not as competitive now that it is in AS. In BS it dominated. But AS is a little tougher playing against the C4 Vette and Porsche 993. An S2k did manage the 2nd place trophy in '06, but you had to look down to 7th place to find the next S2k.

At Nats, the AP1 has captured top honors for S2ks...so far. Next year may be different. The AP2 can use much larger tires than the AP1 can...and tire availability will probably continue to get worse for the AP1. Plus, those AP1s out there are getting old. However, the AP2 does have some disadvantages for legal stock class competition: there is a clutch delay valve that can slow clutch engagement at launch and rapid upshifts (easily removed, but not legal); and tranny gear ratios force more shifts on average sized courses.

For just fun local competition...drive both an AP1 and AP2...buy the one you like.
