Hello,
I don't know if this is the right place to post this, this is my first time so bear with me please.

I am thinking of buying a new S2000, the dealer near me wants MSRP which is $32,700.

1) Is this a good deal?
2) Are there any options I should get?
3) Any options I should avoid?

Anything else you'd tell me as a prospective buyer?

You'll find a lot of good tips here and also on this site =
http://S2000fans.com/

Just take some time and read through the post on this board and be sure to go to the other site. It has information on buying a new Stook.
AND, welcome to the forum!!!!!
MSRP is a good deal....Calif people have to go out of state to get MSRP. There have been a few people that were able to get one below MSRP. I had to pay MSRP here in Alabama.

1) It is up to you on what you want to pay.. But MSRP is a good deal.. You can find some under MSRP but you have to look hard to find them.

2) depends on what you want

3) Any dealer add-ons
Look here if you need something (cheaper then what the dealer will charge you)

Thanks for the tips.

I guess what I should have asked is whether or not there are any "must have" options from the factory, that if I didn't get with the car would cost me more later and thus I should get them with the car.

I'm not looking for anything in particular, just a good deal on a car, it sounds like MSRP is a good deal for these cars.

Any problems with the car I should be aware of, things like items failing shortly after you get it? any recalls? that sort of thing.

Thanks in advance!

There have been a few engine failures, maybe a dozen or so that I know of, and lots of people have had a grind when shifting into second gear, myself included although I blame myself for not having the clutch all the way in. Very reliable car and especially for a sports car. The only thing you will regret after buying the S2000 is if you ever have to sell it.

The one bit of advice I can give you is, don't buy your car off of a schmuck!

There are dealers out there that want to earn your business and are real car enthusiasts. Now I know what have of you reading this are thinking-- "isn't this guy a dealer??" Yes I am but that's not the point. I hate to see people buy from someone that doesn't respect the car or know anything about it. Sorry I guess I am ranting a bit!

Welcome to the forum! This is a great place to get information and most everyone here is really top notch!

One other question about the Yellow color.

If you look at Preludes and other yellow Hondas after a couple of years they fade badly and get a chalky yellow look to them.

Has Honda changed its yellow paint for the S2000?

This is the right place. Generally you can ask any question and get an honest non critical answer. This forum and its members are awesome. You may also find some answers to questions that you have not thought of yet at:

I think it is a good deal, the price quoted is MSRP + destination charge (usually $440). There are others on this forum that have found a few cars for less then MSRP but those deals are still few deals like this. As far as I can tell most of these deals are either in the New England area or are the test drive car.
2)
The price you pay for the s2000 is generally considered loaded for this type of roadster (leather, abs, cd player, etc...). The few options that you may want is the 6 disk changer and the car cover (if you put it up in the winter).
3)
Since there are relatively few options there is little to avoid.

I have to agree with JSHY. Make sure you talk to the service manager or the head tech. The sales person and the tech should give you confidence that they know what they are selling and can service the car correctly when it comes time.
Do not buy a car that you think has been used as the tester... There are still enough of these cars out there that you can be picky. Usually the sales people inspire people to go well beyond VTEC and to slam on the brakes numerous times to show how it handles. VTEC should not be entered until the car is past 600 miles. Find a car with less than 30 miles on it. For example my car they would not allow anyone to test drive until a substantial amount of money exchanged hands. They were also picky about who stood next to it never mind sat in it. (My dealer freaked when I just walked in, opened the car door and sat down (Clair Honda Saco ME) .)

Just do it! Some have reported getting as much as $500 under MSRP. This has been very rare. I'm pretty sure more have paid over MSRP than not; so, if you can get it for that, just do it!
