thinking of getting s2000 but now im very skeptical...please help
Check out this thread started by xviper. It shows the other side of the coin...should give you a good idea of how we really feel about the car.
kadeshpa's right, if this car doesn't "call" you on it's own merits, don't look for a sell here. NO car is bulletproof (read: perfect). This car is a real value based on $ cost per thrill returned. It is very beautiful, if not a sexy design, really sports-oriented, and reliable. Don't get scared from discussions on this board.
Many folks would call it an instant classic if you can appreciate how that opinion sets it apart from other "sports" cars. It may not mean a lot to some folks, but the S2000 has a lot of hand- assembly and is a limited-production car from Japan; where some standards are still held high.
Try test driving cars you are considering and trust your emotions commensurate with your budget. If you buy ANY new car, you still should have the warranty and lemon laws if things get ugly. My $.02.

ok listen everyone. i want to say how much i appreciate the advice about the s2k. ive been on the honda board for a long time and i have to say that it feels really tite here. whats wonderful about having such a gorgeous and beautiful car is that people understand where everyone is coming from and share the same love and value. yea i know i sound corny but thats how i feel. dont get me wrong, i absolutely love the s2k. i was only scared about the post about the rear locking up and him ramming into a wall. happening to 60 cars??? that is a lot!! not that im saying the car is not reliable at all, it just appears that it seems to be somewhat intimidating knowing that your car can lock up and cause you to get into an accident, possibly death in the worst case scenario. it wasnt a question of reliabilty,i am just scared. more scared than enthusiastic about the car? no way. i dont own an s2k, YET. but this is the truth, i have been dreaming about this car for the past two weeks, racing it, driving it, cruising in it. i dont know why but i feel like that is my calling. thats why im considering getting the car. i love it.
With regards to that post you are referring to about the guy that his transmission failed and locked up his rear differential, I think is BS. Technically, I don't even know how a transmission failure can result in his rear differential locking up. Honestly, I believe that it is a case of just going too speed around a turn in the rain, the rear end coming loose and crashing.
I think its just a made up excuse of why he crashed his S2000.
It's a great car, I had an 01 but it was rear ended, the damage was quite extensive so I was forced to trade it in last week. Guess what I'm waiting to arrive? (check my sig) I never even considered anything else.

Point to remember is that drivers of the S2k drive their cars more aggressively than your typical Lexus driver. Does the reliability issue lie inherently in the car or does the driving style have a greater impact?
The S2000 is not your typical Honda, in that it is expected to perform and drive so much differently. Because of this, the car may need more attention than the typical Honda. That being said, I have had mine since Oct 1999 (having ordered it sight unseen in Oct 98) and have had it on the track half a dozen times; and I can tell you that since its still basically stock, everything runs great and I have not had any unexpected problems. I have the TSB's done by Honda, and the car has been perfect otherwise.
If the car calls out to you, by all means get one. Its the best bang for the buck if this is the type of car you want. You cannot beat a RWD sports car liek this one.

i love this car but i thought it was bulletproof in reliability.
am i wrong in making a decision not to go with this car?

Don't get it.
Yeah, don't get it man.
I bought a 99 Prelude because I had a good salesman and I like the way the car looked. I wasn't really sure if it was fast enough for me. I was right, and I wish that I had never bought it. It made my life miserable to get in a car that I didn't care for, if you even THINK you won't like it in a couple months don't get it.
You need to actually test drive the S before you make a decision though, that's what made me buy my baby.
