I think the small black strakes in FRONT of the tyres are called "spats". They are there to deflect oncoming air from entering the wheels wells. The oncoming air entering the wheel wells causes turbulence which increases aerodynamic drag. Other sporty cars eg. MR-S, TSX/Accord, etc have them too.

Huh? Yes, they are simple aerodynamic aids to modify air flow.. there are two sets in the rear (the inside ones are not flexible) to do the same thing. I have no idea where the 'visibility' comment comes from.. I can't see them during high speed driving.. maybe that is why my laps times are not what I want!

So Ace10 and Elistan clarified that "mudguard" is really "fender" and NOT the black plastic pieces. Which is interesting because I naturally started using the left fender to line up curves in "spirited driving." It doesn't seem to work as well with the right fender. I wonder if that was really Honda's intention or just a journalist taking liberty and making things up.

Anyway, I do use the left fender as suggested.

Yep, at least they were cool about it though, there were no questions asked, they just ordered them. The only thing I had to do was show them exactly what I was talking about since they had that deer in the headlights stare when I kept saying, "the front strakes just in front of the tires"
