Default To Those with Oil Temp Gauges, How Long?

I personally like to wait until the oil is up to or near normal operating temp before driving my car in a spirited fashion. I will be installing my gauges soon, but was just wondering for those who have them, how long does it take for the oil to warm up to or near normal operating temp upon a cold start (i.e., 1st cold start of the day in the morning)?

6 miles?

What do you consider normal operating range? Mine takes about 20 minutes in stop and go traffic to get to about 175 degrees.

I don't have an oil temp gauge hooked up yet so I don't know what the normal operating temp of the s2000 is and of course, warm-up time varies with load and the like.

I'm assuming or have always believed that oil isn't really effective until 170-180, but I could be wrong.

It seems that the coolent warms up faster than the oil does, but if you have a good syn oil that flows well when cold, just wait till its at 3 bars. then go for it.

That's coolant temp, not oil temp.

However is a good indication of when you can do some spirited driving. adding another gauge serves what purpose?
