Up here in Toronto I left my car outside last winter when the temps went down as low as -32F in January for a month. When I returned from japan my battery imploded. I bought a Interstate battery and it seems better than stock in the winter.

Sounds like you do need a new battery..or at least it's starting to go bad. Mine also seems to be getting low and I ordered an Optima Yellow top for it. They are around $115 and I think they are a few pounds heavier than stock. My alarm rolls up the windows and the top when it arms, so I figured the Optima would be a better bet.

Had the same situation. I bought the car from a dealer and then a week later my car wouldn't start. I jump started it, drove it around to charge it then the next day it wouldn't start again. I took the battery to Kragen and they fully charged it for free but the machine said to replace the battery because something was wrong with it. I got a second opinion at a another Kragen and they tested it using some electronic measuring tool and it came out as "Replace Battery"
So I bought a new on and had no problems since. My friend recommended "Optima" battery but I didn't want to wait days for it to arrive so I just got Interstate.

The useless little indicator window was BLANK on mine. At least you had some color.
I replaced mine last summer, with no problems.
Factory batteries are cheap and only last 1-3 years at most. Must be a deal the auto industries have worked out!

Jason B,
Battery issue aside, Nerd Boy is right. Fuse at the battery. This is a real safety issue. You have about 10 ft of wire between the battery and the fuse in the trunk, if any portion of that is damaged and shorts you will probably have a fire. I have seen this type of destruction at car audio events. It's ugly. Fuse at the battery.

You sub is def not on....and cant be the cause of the problems. For you to run your sub directly to the battery, you have to have an internal amp, which can mean you have either the basslink or the woox. You cannot hook up a regular sub directly to the battery. Saying that, they both require a remote wire, which turns the internal amp on when the stereo is on. It is not running if your stereo is off.

The indicator only shows the status of the one cell, so it can show green and be dead, or the reverse.
I have posted before that it is a bad idea to wait for battery to conk out, since all the rest of the charging system works harder and longer. It is not uncommon on many Asian cars to have to replace the alternator, which is a pricey affair. I recommend replacing the battery at least 6 months before its due date, or at the first sign of failure.
