For those wanting a homelink
is it true that homelinks dont work on garage openers that have the continuously changing codes? my dads land rover has the homelink and it doesnt work on his garage and i think its because of the opener always using a different code each time.

But your car has to have the capability to be trained. Our Audi can "learn" the next sequence in a rolling sequence.
But that begs the question... if not part of the car, then why not just use a traditional garage remote?

Got my garage door opener, wired on my headlights;just have to flash the highbeam to open the door.Thank's to the Electronic Forum Guys.!!!
Simple, as I have done research on this trying to solve my own situation. The universal remotes you can buy are brand specific or are narrowly associated with certain brands (not all brands), or they are programable with dip switches. I have a Genie garage door, a gate remote, and I also carry my Dad's Overhead Door Co Remote. There is no remote that will program all three.
Now Homelink. With Homelink you can hold up ANY RF remote, press both buttons, and viola! Learned! With our Pilot our Homelink easily handled all three remotes. I found a web site that sold everything "remote" and they said that there was no "trainable" remote out there except Homelink.
As far as rolling code...most, if not all, rolling code openers have a "learn" button on the main unit hanging from the ceiling. This will allow a static code to be learned by the Homelink.
So Homelink is not needed by everyone...but there are many that carrying three remotes is the only option.
