for those of you who 'fixed' the gear grinding problems
hi guys,
like many of you out there, i too have the second gear grind and clunky second and third gear. i got the s2k not too long ago, and it just breaks my heart (and shivers down my back) whenever i grind. i just can't get use to it.
now i was wondering for those of you that have went to the dealer and had them fixed--are the grinds pretty much gone now? or is it still there? is it worth it to get it checked?

I never had too much of the grinding to begin with but went ahead and got the fix. Now, I question whether I should have done it or not. It doesn't grind at all anymore.....but about a week after the fix, I noticed a quiet humming noise coming from the tranny whenever I let the clutch out in neutral standing still. I can only hear it with the top up and in quiet areas. I think it's the throwout bearing. I took the car back in and they of course say it's normal. I'm going to try another dealer....
My transmission was very bad before the fix with regular grinds once it got hot which took higher ambient temps and a bit of driving. After the fix it is much improved, but indications are that the problem still exists to some extent. We will not know how successful the repair was until the warmer weather this summer.
I had my grind fixed several months ago and it hasn't happened since. Transmission is nice and smooth, no grinding. When the weather is very cold in the mornings it can be rough shifting between 1st, 2nd, and reverse, but as soon as it warms up it's fine. Get it done, I can't stand that horrible grinding noise.

Good point, Cdelena. I hadn't thought about summer being the acid test for the "fix". I had mine repaired in January, and since it's my daily driver, except on snow days, I assumed it was really fixed. I haven't had a grind in the 2-plus months since the fix, but I guess I won't know for sure until some long, hard summer driving days. I guess I should've said, "thanks for ruining my day, Cdelena." :-)
