When they say recommended 1/4" deflection, are they referring to 1/4" from highest to lowest or 1/4" from top and middle?

Good question. I did mine @ 1/4" from top to middle.

Is it possible to have zero slack on your throttle body cable without ill consequence?

I wanted to have minimal slack on my cable so i tightened it so there was almost no play.

As a result of this, my idle once fully warmed up increased to 1500pm instead of the usual 1000rpm. I then loosened the cable a bit to the recommended 1/4 inch deflection and my idle returned back to the normal 1000rpm.

So i guess it is possible to overtighten your throttle body cable?

Just want clarification on this as i thought i read in another post about people adjusting their cables to zero slack for the best possible throttle responsiveness.

Its bad to overtighten because at WOT you'll be stretching the cable since the butterfly will be fully open before the pedal is all the way to the floor. Just do it the way the manual specifies.

Yup. Follow the manual.

At the absolute least, just have a friend hold the pedal to the floor and check that the throttle plate is all the way open. If it is, you really have no adjustments to make...

This adjustment made revmatching on down shifts significantly easier. I feel like I have much better control of the throttle.

Finally got around to checking mine, I was shocked how much slop it had, it took longer to read this thread then it did to tighten up. Thanks for the recommendation.

Glad my MY06+ peoples are enjoying my DIY.

Add to FAQ mmk

I recommend this as a "first free mod" to everyone.

Yes, this is a great mod!

Especially good for making shifting (with some light throttle blipping) more consistent.

I like to set it so that there is as much slack possible under the hood - so it always returns to idle, but so that there is no detectable slack at the foot peddle (as tested by hand on the accelerator) - so that any motion of the accelerator pedal results in some actual throttle/engine speed increase.

I think this ends up being about half the factory recommended slack. (I think they recommend something like 1/4" in either direction perpendicular to the direction of cable travel and tested around the place where it is tightened.)
