Default Time to change clutch?

I have an 02 with 30K and I was wondering how I would be able to tell when it was time to change the clutch. I bought the car with 28k on it so I don't know the previous owners driving habits. I feel a little bit of a notchy feeling going from 1st to 2nd but all the other gears feel fine. The clutch engages about half way up when starting in 1st gear, I just didn't know if there was a sure way of telling when it was time to change or should I just take it to the dealer and ask?

Also if anyone has had their clutch changed at the dealership, how much did it cost?

The notchiness in the transmission is not due to the clutch wearing out. If you think your clutch is dragging, you will notice a grind when putting into reverse, even if you wait for 30 seconds or so with the clutch all the way to the floor.

Try putting the car in 3rd gear and with your foot on the brake, let the clutch out slowly, the car should stall immediately. If not, the clutch is slipping. You should also be able to tell when you are accelerating if the clutch id slipping or not.

Some people get < 10K on their clutch, some get > 60K. You can't tell by milage.

the notchyness of the shifts is from the way the s2k is... it doesnt have to do a worn clutch.. the s2k is known for a notchy 1-2 shift...
you'll know when your clutch is wearing out when it slips and doesnt grab as well

Is there anything we can do you get rid of the notchyness? I also noticed this with my 02 with 15k miles on it. I am going to try bleeding my clutch this weekend and if possible find out if I can adjust my clutch if that is possible.

The problem is with the transmission NOT the clutch. (Read the above posts!)

Change the transmission fluid.

change the tranny oil to redline mt-90, or G.M. synchromesh friction modified is also a good choice. IHMO drive safe
