DJHOHUM
The bumper was removed and the lights were also. After that replace with the clears and there you go. The hood is from J's Racing.

It will come off the car if you wish without doing any damage to properly cured paint, but the piece cannot be used again, kinda like window tint is permanent. You can wash and wax right over it, and if you are planning to have any chemicals that are supposed to reduce acid rain or tree sap ect. have that done before the StonGard. Just don't use anything abrasive on it.

Before I purchased the Stongard I took a look at David's and Dennis's S2k's and was impressed

Well...damn...I went by DetailWurkz today and talked to Sisco, I don't think they really knew what I was talking about. They said that the stuff they put on is the 'Touch of Class' clear coat. So, in other words it's like a REALLY expensive wax job. So I got to talking to him more and further described what StoneGuard is, he said they didn't use it. What?!? Okay, so I'm gonna get this clear coat thing anyways, they go over the entire car, blah blah blah, get the seals, and he's gonna do the inside scotch guarding stuff free (Ha! $300 bucks for the whole job). Towards the end of our conversation he said that there was a product from 3M that they are going to start doing before summer that sounds excatly like what StoneGuard is, like a plastic film that protects against rocks and stuff. So he'll cut me a deal on that 3M thing when he gets it in. So, I'm gonna call around this week and see if there is anyone who acually does the real stoneguard around here(Nor. Cal) If not, I'm just gonna get the 'Touch of class' and get the 3M deal later.

By the way...they are pretty cool guys down there, I haven't seen thier work, but would assume from the looks of things that they are good at what they do.

Sorry for the long post!

Hmmm, weird. So the touch of class is just an expensive clear coat? Anything special about that would make it 3bills?

Well, I guess it takes them about 1.5 hrs to do it, they strip the car of any wax or anything it's got on it, then apply this penetrating coat. It's also got a 5 year warranty. and it 3 hundred for inside and out, so I guess it's not too bad, but I'm still gonna call around this week, and I'll post if I find anything interesting

So what happens when some moron in a parking lot bumps the car? Will that section have to be replaced? I guess that is a silly question... Say someone brushed against it enough to mess up the clear stonegard layer... can just the affected area be replaced.

!!!ALERT!!!

hey deadpedal,

Regarding all your previous posts, I thought those guys in fremont sounded a little fishy. I did some research on my own. Stongard themselves tell me that the ONLY authorized dealer and installer in the greater San Francisco Bay Area is a place in Campbell called Detailwurkz (I don't believe they are the same co. as the one in Fremont, though I can't explain why the names are the same). Anyway, the quoted me a price of ~550 bucks for the complete kit (which includes bumper, hood, fenders, door edges, door handles, side mirrors and side mirror posts) plus $400 for installation, making the grand total ~950 bucks!!!!! ALSO, and very ALSO, they require 2 days to do it, meaning you will have to leave the car there overnight (uh oh!).

AND about those detailwurkz guys in Fremont, I am not too sure if I trust them. I believe they are associated with Streetwize, which is in the same buillding complex. I once had streetwize do a tint job on my '94 prelude. I thought they were the ones who were going to do it when instead, there tint jobs are done by some "outside" guy they bring in who is actually a separate show altogether (meaning, I didn't have to call streetwize, I could have called this guy direct, but they didn't tell me that and made it sound like they were the ones doing it and charged me who knows how much extra). To make a long story short, the tint job SUCKED!!!! and the guy was not very knowledgable about his product lines either. Well, this really doesn't have anything to do with the detailwurkz guys, but, hey, if they are all associated, you know what they say...one bad apple. Besides, it sounds to me like when you talk to them on the phone they weren't too straight with you, leading you to believe they were stongard dealers. A simple call to stongard would have disproved that. I would strongly urge you to go with the real stongard stuff for 900 bucks. Sure, its an arm and a leg, and sure you got to leave your baby there, but in the long run, it will be worth it. I plan on doing it too.

AND...as for the 3M films that are similar to stongard, well, I'd be very careful if and when those fremont folks do get it. I don't think they are as good as stongard. Plus, stongard is just the bomb, afterall, look at all the folks who use them (exotics and the like). Hey, if I have succeeded in brainwashing you, maybe we can get a deal on the real stuff since there will be two cars!

Wow, thanks for the heads up redleader...
Good thing I just got my annual bonus, 'cause I know what it's going towards...I'm very interseted in seeing if we can get a deal on it, just let me know when would be good. wow, we have to leave it over night? I guess that means I'm hoteling it that night since I've got a 120mi round trip commute everyday.
Do you know the street address of that place? Maybe I'll just bring a sleeping bag :-)

Oh, yeah, this may be of interest too:
