Thanks tims2k, but I'm in California, so no luck for me getting a deal from that guy.
and Deadpedal,
I'll start making some calls and finding out more about this dealer/installer in campbell and keep you posted on this board. I am interested in getting it done soon, though from a previous conversation with the guy (which was not too in depth), I know they are booked for weeks. But I'll keep you posted.
Stay away from people that sound like they don't know what they're talking about. They are extremely dangerous.

StonGuard is a company that buys sheets of the protective plastic from 3M and cuts it on their proprietary patterns to fit the S2000 (or other cars). Xpel buys the same 3M stuff and cuts it on their own proprietary patterns. Ask David to confirm this.
As I understand it, 3M developed it to protect the leading engine of airplane props.
I'd get it in a sec if there were a competent installer nearby. Without that, I'm not so sure. I've seen a dark green del sol with the stuff on it, and it looked great.
For now, my plan is to drive the car and repaint it someday when the dings/chips/scratches drive me crazy. So far (725 miles), I've got a scratch on each rocker panel from someone entering carelessly and a bb size ding at the bottom of the front bumper (no spoiler installed). Otherwise my car's complexion is perfect.

StonGard (headquarters in Bellevue, WA) actually used my first S2K over a yr ago to do the original template.
Their stuff is REALLY good, but very hard to put on. Heck, they've even had to re-do their own installs (StonGard HEADQUARTERS!!) due to bubbles! So be VERY careful who you go through. When done right it's virtually invisible, and I've had rocks the size of small boulders hit the front of my car and no damage.
Also have a very good friend who owns a detail shop. He's used other transparent film products, ALSO MADE BY 3M, and had horrible results. Looked awesome at first but ended up lifting & discoloring. I'd honestly recommend using the actual StonGard material.

hey Deadpedal,
They place in Campbell, CA is called "Detailwerks" and the place in Fremont is called "Detailwurkz" So there IS a difference in spelling and they are definitely completely different companies. I went to Detailwerks website and they are definitely professionals. They do mainly high end auto detailing, window tinting and custom truck mods. I am waiting for them to respond to me on whether or not they give discounts for multi-cars. I will let you know. You can also contact them yourself in the meantime if you can find there websit (via search engine). I can't remember right off the top of my head.
Anyone else in the San Francisco Bay Area interested in a group discount (if there is one)?

I had Detailwerks in Campbell install StonGard on my S2K last week. Their phone number is (408) 378-6600. They had my car for four days because the weather was so cold and the install needed lots of attention (the colder it is, the longer it takes for the bubbles to dissipate). They were very professional and the install looks pretty good, but it's too early to really tell because the material is still curing to the car. It takes about three to four weeks for the material to finish adhering to the car, and assuming you have plenty of sunlight, for the bubbles and wrinkles to work themselves out. In about four weeks, I'll go back and Detailwerks will address any remaining issues. In case you haven't guessed yet, this is not a quick process (at least when the weather is cool).
That said, I would never own another car without installing StonGard. This is my second application of StonGard, as the first had to be removed in connection with some minor fender work required by a hit and run in my office parking lot. Having lived with StonGard for almost a year already, I can attest to the fact that it is nearly bulletproof. Not one front-end chip after it was installed.
Any Bay-Area folks who want more information regarding my experience with Detailwerks can e-mail me directly.

Hey, CaliS2K,
They quoted me 2 days to do the install. 4 days sounds like an eternity. I am sure the product and install are great, I just feel uneasy about leaving my car in a strange place for 4 days. I mean, do they take good care of it? Do they store it indoors at night? etc. etc.?
