Default tire size

I'm about to purchase some 17 inch wheels for my 01 s2k. 17x7 front 17x8 rear. I've always liked the azenis', but the only 17 inch size's they make 'em in are 215 45 r17 and 245 45 r17. I'm assuming that's too big but please give me some opinions if that is too big on what size tire i should get. BTW I'm wanting to ge the widest tire's i can WITHOUT rubbing

Thanks!

The size of the rims you want to purchase sound right: 17x7 front, 17x8 rear. The tire size is your choice. The best size for 17" configuration is 245x40x17 rear and 225x45x17 front.

I am not sure what the widest choice would be but I would suggest you stick with recommended sizes if you don't want to mess up the handling/ride of the car too much.

Sorry for the follow-up but I forgot to mention that for 17" rims you are looking at 45mm offset for the front and 48mm for the rear, or something close to this. Here in Europe it is quite hard to find wheels with this offset that match the S2K.

The biggest factor is the observation that the tread width difference of the stock tires is 1.5" wider for the rears. Check out the specs and try to maintaain that difference. The stock "225" tire is the equivalent of a 245 in virtually any other tire.

I'm running 215 45 17 S03s in front and 245 40 17 in the rear.

I have heard that 225 45 17 can work well for the front and 255 40 17 in the rear.

The tire rack has spec sheets on most tires that I have found helpful.

BTW, I posted a 17" tire question to Jim in the Tire & Wheel forum.

He informed me that the 2004 S2000 will have a new OEM Bridgestone Potenza RE050 in 215/45R17 and 245/40R17. If you're not in a rush, it may be worth checking those out. We may find that's a custom matched tire just like the 16 S02s. Bridgestone has added those sizes to their website, but all the details (section width, contact patch, etc.) are blank.

I am surprised to hear that! You have OZ SL 17" with 45 and 48 offset on a stock S2000 and you have minor rubbing.

This should not be the case according to several articles I have read during the past 2 months I've been looking for wheels.
