The car on Friday had full, clear fluid levels and was teched by a performance shop that handles my NSX. The car was in perfect condition one minute and making a tapping noise the next.

Update: I just got off the phone with Honda and they are NOT going to warranty my engine. Unbelievable! I am pissed! Their reasoning is that there was no oil left in the engine. It doesn't seem to matter to them that:
1. I can provide documentation that it was serviced with clear and full oil on Thursday....3 days before suddenly there is no oil and less than 1000 miles later!!!
2. The car never overheated.
3. The car's oil sensor never came on and is NOT currently on.
4. That I know of 16 other S2ks with the same problem.
I asked, "What do you expect me to do, check the oil every day?"

It seems that my only recourse now is to contact my attorney

Are there other s2k owners out there that were not warrantied in need of help with a class action lawsuit? If so please contact me at (407) 327-3545.

I think you have a serious case here with points 1-3, especially if the oil light STILL doesn't come on even when the car is devoid of any oil.

Tom,
It's at Gwinnet Place Honda in Duluth, Georgia. I have also spoken with Honda's customer service directly.

Are they suggesting the shop that changed your oil cross-threaded the drain plug and allowed the oil to drain out? If that's the case your only recourse may be with the shop that changed your oil.

If this is not the case, you need to immediately escalate this to the zone manager for your region. If your are firm (a little angry) but polite, I think Honda will resolve the issue for you. If you vent (scream) at them, you may be waiting a long time for a resolution.

Hmm... On second thought, if the oil light is malfunctioning, then you may still have recourse even if the oil changer screwed up.

Mikey, the oil wasn't changed--see original post.

dhoward, can you get a functioning e-mail address for someone at Honda we can then bombard with e-mails protesting this treatment, especially originated by owners who have seen similar problems? Failing that, perhaps get names and tag #s for the ones that have experienced failures and include them in a letter stating that, based on the experience of these individuals, you are planning on a class action suit?

I wouldn't invest a lot of money in legal consultation until it becomes clear that you're being stonewalled by top Honda management.

Vince & Deborah - This really sucks . Did you, by any chance, check the oil immediately before the car was taken to the dealer?

I am also perplexed by some conflicting information. The dealer states that the car has "no oil" in it yet the oil light never came on. You can document that the oil level was correct 1000 miles ago. I do not remember EVER seeing so much as a puff of blue smoke coming from the back of your car on the drive up. I don't remember seeing any evidence of oil leaking from the vehicle. So, can the dealer offer an explanation as to where the oil went?

Have you actually seen the car with no oil in it and the oil light not on? I'm just a little suspicious of the information given to you. Keep us posted. I wouldn't resort to the attorney ... just yet.

Ahh, I only read dhowards most recent post. I was thinking service the car = change the oil.

Well then there should definitely be recourse, you just have to escalate this to the Zone Manager pronto. Keep asking for bosses until you get the manager. It also wouldn't hurt to write a letter describing the problem and faxing it to the Zone Manager.

I've heard of warranty refusals for oil loss on other cars when something like the oil filter was damaged through a road hazard. That is very rare though.
