Thumbs up Tochigi Vs Suzuka factory.

Just looked at the VIN number of my 05 S2K, and realized my car was made in the Suzuka plant, not the usual Tochigi plant... and after some research I found out they also moved the MY05 NSX prodcution to Suzuka too... so my question is...why? Why relocate the last prodction year of the NSX? Does it mean the S2K is gonna go soon? To relocate two car model are extremely complicated and expensive, not to mention one of it is going to end soon.... In a business perspective, it's highly unwise.

Anyone know what they are making in the Tochigi plant? Any idea?

correction: Both NSX and S2K are mainly build by hand so moving to other plant don't take much cost... just move the people.

all of the low-production lines moved to suzuka. the insight, too.

The reasons were probably cost savings. maybe they are doing something special at tochigi now...that is the R&D facility, btw.

Not hand built.....hand assembled.
Maybe that is what you meant but there is a major difference between the two.
Also.....I heard the S was moved from the plant because these highly skilled, hand picked workers refused to install the new 2.2's in the NA bound vehicles. Something about too low a red line and catering to a special interest group of non sporting, torque sucking fatasses....

Yes, clearly Honda was making room at Tochigi for new, advanced development. To my knowledge, only the NSX, S2000, and Insight were being built at Tochigi. All were moved.

Don't read anything else into it. It's not the death knell for the S2000, and we can only hope that the folks at Tochigi are at work at the next giant-killers.
