Are the tolerances that bad in the S2000?

Arrow Are the tolerances that bad in the S2000?

Just wondering coz it seems like that gaps are unsually big in mine... I know it's a hand-assembled car, but still....

Was talking to a body shop guy the other day and he was like, "You should see the 2004 Civics - Honda's getting really sloppy and slacking off these days."

I aggree that Honda is really slacking in their quality control with the whole change to Macpherson struts and stuff but the S2000 is put together very well imo. You must have a strange one because all the sheet metal and bumper covers line up great on mine and all the others I have seen.

I have a theory that the problems that are occuring with the newer cars because of a teething process Honda is going through with this "new to them" technology.

I know what you mean, kcham. The gaps between adjacent panels on the 2K are large. All of the 2K's are that way. Compare the gap between the forward edge of your front doors and the panel just ahead of the door on our cars to the same gap on a BMW or a Porsche, or in some cases even a Pontiac (yes, a pontiac). The 2K's, while straight, even and uniform, are pretty big. Is this an indication of poor workmanship? I don't think necessarily. Not great tolerances, though. Something I noticed at purchase, but was willing to live with.

Mine's ok. The only thing I notice is the rear bumper. It doesn't look like it lines up well with the lights. I've seen it on many other 04s too.

From independent double wishbones front and rear. The Civic and Integra both came with this type of suspension. Very unique to see that type of suspension in the market segment that the Civic competed with.

there's nothing wrong with my car. was just interesting to note this coz some of the car manufacturers I've spoken with before think of tolerances as an indication of quality - the smaller the gap, the more precise your work is, and with much better fit & finish.

You've watched F&F too many times. We own S's or S2000's... not 2000's(2k).

You wann see gaps? Look at a saturn. I saw one in traffic the other day I swear I could have stuck my finger in the door gaps b/c they were so wide. Maybe it's because the plastic has to expand and retract
