Default too many miles?

http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/cto/2922103090.html

looking to get into an s2000 as right now I pretty much just ride a motorcycle every where. Yes I am the king of practicality

What do you guys think of that one? obviously i need more pics of the vehicle and to check it out but for the money am I starting with a car that will just give me problems having 134k miles?

I just started communication with the guy, so far all i have is the pics on the ad and that it is a clean title and that it has a small tear on the top and a few minor dings here and there.

Should I just spend more for a lower mileage?

At that price I would be a little suspicious. Decent condition with that many miles usually goes for around 9k, especially now that winter is over and the price of these are going back up. New soft tops are pricey BTW.

You probably need to see/drive it. I agree with the previous poster though, that price is a little low for an S, so make sure he isn't just trying to unload it due to some larger issue. There's an 'is this car worth it' thread (also on the first page of this forum) which might be a better place for this.

A new top will cost about 600-800 depending on which one you get, but most places will charge another 400-600 for labor.

1. no pictures of the inside
2. the engine bay looks very very dirty
3. it looks like it has been kept at a trailer park without a garage
4. tire condition?
5. the price is very low imo. I would go check it out. get a carfax done on it. check the wheel hubs, transmission, oil condition.

Be careful with this one. If might be a great deal but it might be a hot mess.

I wouldn't trust this. get it checked out professionally. Get a leak down/ compression test. Get as much info on the repair / maintenance history.

Thanks for the tips guys. I may check it out but I think I will look into spending a little more money for a nicer example of an s.

Good looking out you guys!

Sounds like it might be a salvage title. The body is in tip top shape despite the bay being dirty.. Makes me think it might have had work done to it. It doesn't say the title is clean in the ad which makes me think that It could hold a salvage title. I dealt with this ALOT when finding my S.

I'd pay the $45 for 3 carfax runs and see what comes back before buying it. Overall the top doesn't look to be in bad shape. It doesn't have the eversopopular tear up at the top corner from what I can see. But one way to know for sure would be to mist a hose over the car and see if there is any water that gets inside.

Either way goodluck and I hope you find nice car!!
