too many miles?
Can you do your own work? Swap motors, replace a clutch, differential, etc? If so this might be a decent buy. I purchased an S2000 with 102k miles but it was fairly well taken care of. I had a Honda dealer check it over including a compression and leak down test. It didn't come out perfect but this is just going to be a toy for me. It's not my main car and will sit parked a lot of the time.
These cars can be very solid or very abused. The owner may have purchased the car as a cheap track car for 2-3 seasons. Sure, beat the hell out of it with minimal maintenance and sell it with a $3-4k loss. Pretty cheap track car if that's how it was used and you'll get stuck with the repair bills. Who knows but when you check it out check out the owner also. You can tell a lot from the person selling it.
I would shy away from most S2000s under $10k. I'm sure there are good buys out there but when stuff breaks on this car it can be expensive.

Price honestly doesn't seem too off. I mean I bought my 05 Ap2 with like 55k on it for 15k in the middle of summer from a personal owner on craigslist. These cars seem to be getting much cheaper. All I had to do to mine for the most part was drop 700 bucks for used headlights and spend an entire day buffing and waxing with the porter cable. It could use a new soft top too but I'm holding out for a hard top
You might want to get a local S2K owner to check it out with you. It's always hard to tell about what you are getting into from online sources. Do alot of research on here on what to look for (such as this subforum: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/775...-a-used-s2000/) and try to get friendly with some local S2K gurus who will probably be more than happy to help you look into it.
Good luck!
Good luck!
Im in san Antonio as well and I considered buying it because I thought it was so cheap. But something just doesn't seem right, I texted the person and they only texted back twice and then I called them twice and never got a response. But from my understanding its a female selling it not a male. Like stated before go check it out and see if all the vins match, if its a clear tittle, and if it drives smooth. And don't worry too much about the milege, mines a my00 with 130k and still running good but maintance counts a lot too so get that carfax. Are you new to the s or are you looking for a second one?
Carfax reports are nice but they only tell what was reported to insurance. It is possible that it could have been in a wreck and not payed through insurance. It also takes a while for things to be updated in their database.
