I trailered the S2000 up to King so that Scott could listen to the engine. News was not good, so it's on the way to the dealer as I type. Looks like it will need a new engine. We're not sure why it happened but Scott thinks one of the piston aprons collapsed, making the piston rattle around in the sleeve. Apparently, some early 2000 models had this problem, not sure why ours did.

I'd like to publicly thank Scott for taking the time out to check out my car, and lend his expertise. I feel allot better taking it to the dealer now that I have an expert opinion. Also, thanks for cutting me a break on the diagnostic time, Scott... I really appreciate it.

I'll try to keep everyone posted when our car is on the mend. Good thing it's winter, couldn't drive it anyway!

just out of curiousity.... wasn't this car tracked??? is the warranty still valid? I am not sure how strict (read..dickheaded)honda is about warranty work like that? is there evidence of the car being tracked?

my dealer knows i took my car to the track a couple of times, but hopefully that doesn't hinder anything if i ever do need warranty work.

thanks. - Scot

Even if there is a case that the car was used in a competition, isn

Tracking a car does not void the warranty.

Abuse certainly can, but when Honda includes an SCCA application with every car, how could they possibly say tracking the S2000 is abuse?

Anyway, I don't "track" my car, I participate in "Driver Education Activities" (at racetrack facilities.)

It was autocrossed, and it had over 1500 miles on it when it was autocrossed. Car was broken in properly, and autocrossing is no tougher on the car than what most people do on the street. Our car was not abused, and it had a suspicious noise which was identical to the current noise only quieter, long before we autocrossed it. We are thinking this car was defective, and because there is a history of this problem I don't think warranty will be an issue. If it is an issue and we have to pay, then we'll deal with that as it comes.

I am pretty sure "tracking a car" will give any Honda related employee reason enough to decline just about any warranty claim. - Scot

I can't say with any certainty whether it does or doesn't, so I have to leave it up to the judgement of the service advisors at the dealership, along with the district and regional reps. They will make the final determination. We have to adibe by their decision.

FWIW,

a friend has a 99 C5 hardtop, which had a loss of oil pressure during a track event.

The dealer denied him warranty because it this. Sited items like roll/harness bar in the car, soft compound R tires, etc as evidence of track use...

Again, thats GM and not Honda...

ummm, one dealer I talked to seemed quite anal about problems with my car, I hadnt mentioned a thing about tracking it and he says, If this car has been "raced" nothing will be covered by Honda . . .
Lastly he said it boils down to his decision,
so do I get a grind fix?? not unless there is a major problem with it.
If he thinks I raced it, no. And he thinks racing it is bringing the engine to redline ?!?!?!?

Thats two dealers I wont take my car to, NEEEEXT?
