i just bought a 02 and it sometimes does the same thing. sometimes, it doesn't even go down at all. this seems to occur after the car was washed or drove in the rain. but seems to work after a while when it's all dried up. it just seemed odd to me. does anyone else have this problem?

Usually this problem is associated with cold temps. Mine always does it in cool temps. Just give it a push and it will go right down.

Jason-
it has happened on occasion with mine. It has gone down just a little past three-fourths of the way. But I'm not sure how far your top does not go down, so yes, I would be curious about your pics. Usually it happens after a cold spell; the vinyl isn't quite as pliable. After it warms up, she goes down all the way. Oops; that previous sentence suddenly has a whole different meaning.

Here's the solution. While sitting in the car, locate the crossbar just above and aft of your head. Retract the roof until the leading edge is vertical. Now manually push the afore-mentioned bar down and aft. Continue retraction. For a permanent fix the elastic bands must be replaced.
