The cig butt incident has occirred to me. Luck for me I picked it up and chucked it back into the perpetrator while I screamed at him to use his F***ing ashtray..maybe BMW's dont come with them?

Despite that, I leave my top down alot and have had no problems. Surprisingly people are pretty respectful of the car, even the teenagers who prefer to see the top down and look at everything then a closed top where I see nose and hand prints on the windows when I return.

Obviosuly i choose the places carefully to park etc, but its just part of the "cost" of ownig this car. thats why i have insurance i guess.

There was this one time in my eclipse when I thought my doom was upon me. I was doing about 30 in a residential street when SPLAT! the biggest pile of 'something' yu've ever seen landed on my windshield. I'm not kidding guys, there was at least a cup of bird crap in this one dropping - it was like a fricking ptreodactyl or condor decided to crap on me. So I pulled into the gas station to clean it off, and notice another equally large dropping right on my trunk, and some more right on my tail. I don't know how all of these managed to miss my passenger compartment, but I think there was some divine intervention involved... Just a few MPH faster or slower, and I'd have had condor crap in my car!

As far as the issue of rain and convertibles, one individual said that it is no big deal - he actually wrote "no permanent harm at all."

Just my opinion, but if your convertible gets soaked (not misted, or wet for a minute or 2), you've got problems...

A local Spa Yellow owner here used to leave his S2000 with the top down in front of his business. . .

When he was done for the day he was shocked to find that someone had spit into his car twice!!!

Oh. . .yeah. . .these were not "regular" spits. . .these were the ones with nasal drip. . .

I believe teens call this "hocking a loogie!" Nasty stuff!

Listen to me. . ."teens!" As if I were 60 years old! HAhaHA!

Damn, sounds like some crazy incidents there. I'm just glad that it's still safe to have the top down in Sydney. Funny enough though in Japan, nothing of such sort or little road rage barely occurs on everyday driving with heavy traffic jams. Hmm, I guess it's just the people who determine what it's like.

So true. In Tokyo I leave the roof down all the time. In car parks, at the side of the road.... touch wood, never a problem....

in japan u can pretty much leave ANYTHING and come back and it'll still be there. last year when i was in osaka i bought a digicam and was about to slide it under the seat when we were getting out of the car. my friend was looking at me like i was on crack since he leaves all his stuff in plain view, if not on the dash.. (btw his cars not a convertible)
too bad it's not like that in north america

When I lived in an apartment in Orlando I couldn't leave the top down on my Vette for more than 5 minutes without finding garbage, newspapers, chewing gum, beer cans, etc. in the car. So far with the S2000 I haven't had any serious problems but I'm living in a slightly better hood now.

Left the top down and went into the store for 15 minutes and when I came out I saw a guy walking away from the car. Went over real fast to check for any key mark on the passenger side, thanks god there was none. The wife came out a little later and got into the car and felt something on the side support of the seat scratching her. I went over to look and found 5 long nail marks running up the passenger side support of the seat. The marks were really deep but thanks god it did not cut all the way through. I was pissed off and drove around to find the guy, but by then he was long gone.
