So let me get this straight, the insurance company says they will pay for all of the damage, but you are upset because they would rather pay the body shop, and not you directly, so now you can't cash the check, go to a different body shop, pay them with the money the insurance company gave you, and pocket the rest?

Are you upset because the insurance company wont let you scam them out of some money?
thats a good point!

This is normal if you don't hold the title. The cashed check by the body shop is proof to the finance co. that the work was done.

You can find body shops that will work with you on this.

Shop around yourself, find a bodyshop that will bill you at a higher rate, so that the deductible is covered under the check and you don't have to front the 500. Fairly easy to find.

Harder to find a shop that will give you a 'cash rebate', but they are out there as well.

Insurance companies are crooks.

That is strange. I have Allstate and when I had an accident a couple of years ago they worked directly with the body shop on the payment. never saw a check and just had to pay my deductable amount to the shop.

Sorry I forgot to mention some other details as to why I am upset. The rep told me that I will probably have to pay the $500 deductable to the body shop when I meet up with the adjuster, which is fine. Then when I called the adjuster, she said that sometimes, the final payoff check gets delayed so the body shop does not get paid on time when the job is finished. Therefore, the body shop wants to hold my car until they get paid. I have no clue as to when they will get paid. It could be weeks, even months! I told the body shop that this is not a problem on my end and that I should be able to take the car when the job is done. Plus they are trying to charge me "betterment" fees because they are giving me a new top. Keep in mind that my top was replaced roughly 3 months ago through another insurance company. They wont allow me to buy a used top from ebay or anything. The reason why I want them to write me a check so that I can cash it is because I want to ensure that I have the funds to take my car out of the body shop once it's done. I cant afford to leave the car in there for weeks, let alone months. Its better to be safe then sorry. Im not saying that I will take it to another body shop and pocket the rest. If it happens to end up that I have 200.00 left over, then so be it. But knowing that your top was slash is even a worse feeling and no pocket money can make up for that. Its just reassuring knowing that the check is made to me and that I can pay the body shop once they are finished. Sure they said that the check it will be made to the body shop, but if I have to wait for them to write the check when it's done, i'm pretty much at their mercy. I just seems that they are making things very complicated for me.

I just wish that they could just send the adjuster to the body shop, get a quote for the repairs with my car present, cut me check. Then done deal. If it ends up costing more, then I would cover the rest. Simple as that. Not sure if my thoughts are coming out right because a lot is going through my mind right now. But let me know if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions.

Exclamation

first off...mercury insurance is the worst cuz i used to have them. they never help you out with anything so i switched out for state farm.

second off...GET A HARDTOP! this way it will be harder to access the interior of your car. get a hardtop and a good alarm with a 2 way pager just in case they break in thru the door instead.

just my .02 cents

Listen I am an Insurance Agent Here in Florida I currently work for an independent agency for Allstate Insurance Co. let me tell you if the Adjuster from Mercury wants to do that you cant do anything about it. as per the insurance Co. (mercury) is paying for the claim ( this is just a way for them to be sure that your top was fix and they dint pay extra money.... this is the difference between a C+ company and an A+ company.

Yea i finally realized that now. I did a google search on Mercury and the reviews on them are horrible. I wish I would have done my research a little better. Ah well, my policy is about to end in a couple of months. Most likely, I'll switch back to all state. I like them better.

Oh yea, I'm actually looking into getting a hardtop. I posted the ad in the WTB section already.

[QUOTE=QuikSilver00,Dec 4 2006, 10:50 PM] I have mercury insurance and they are refusing to cut me a check. The rep says that they will only write a second party check, meaning it will be under my name as well as the repair shop's name.
