That was indeed "TurboDave," meaning he wasn't stock.

Would the Hardtop make for higher top end due to less drag?

That's a good question, but I don't think anyone has bothered to check. The CD may be a fraction less, but the weight more, so it may be an even tradeoff.

Top end is limited by gearing... Unless you get bigger tires, gears or spin the motor faster than 9k, more HP isin't going to make a difference.... Just get you there faster

Someone needs to do a "flat" run with GPS to get a good reading... i don't think the speedo's are correct and that can be different by car just from the tires (higher vs lower pressure, more tread vs worn out tires, etc.....)...along with the fact that the speedo itself is probably just not that accurate at high speed.

I have seen 157 on flat and 162 on a downhill....... but that is not GPS verified. That 175mph thing with Turbodave was on a huge hill if i remember correctly.

I had my stock S doing 155mph and still had about 2500rpm to go. Yes it was flat and the top was up. Now that it's supercharged I had it doin 149mph in 5th gear at 8800rpm on a down hill grade. Thats fast enuf 4 me with a gear left.

True, but in this car it's HP limited, the car simply doesn't have enough power to make it to the gear/redline limit...trust me, I've tried.

Limiter in 5th is about 142, so you're probably thinking 139mph.

On the hardtop weight/drag issue, the weight is almost a complete nonfactor, assuming you have enough room to get up to speed. It's not uncommon for production-car based top speed machines at Bonneville to run 800lbs. or more of ballast to steady the car. At high speeds drag is everything, and in that the hardtop has an advantage over the soft top.

Top speed of a stock S2000 with top up is 150-somthing on the flat with no wind. TurboDave had a few mods, but a turbo wasn't one of them. What he did have was a really long downhill...
