Default Top is torn....

Top didn't seem to want to go down all the way last night. It stopped about 6" too high. I got out and took a look, but nothing seemed wrong. I drove home with it that way, and noticed this morning that I had a tear.

The tear is not too bad, about 1" in the same area that people get wear marks. The top goes down now.

I'm still under warranty. What kind of experience have people had getting tops replaced by the dealer? Do they screw up more than they fix?

There has been isssues with the tops now for A while! I have an 06 and have had my top replaced after what you have described. Where is your tear? Mine was just behind the latch, (when the top is up,behind the latch either side?) I think they need to replace it! descibe the tear further! It sounds like mine. (Oh, they replaced mine no questions)

I had a same problem 2 weeks ago on my 06. The bar behind the "secret comparment" was about 6" above where it suppose to be. Because of this there a "slight" wear where the latch sit.
Anyway they replace my almost 2 years old top and fixed the problem with the bar sticking up. I am a happy camper .. but worry will this will happen again once the warrantee run out

Here's a pic of the tear. It's small, and may be repairable, so I'm not sure if it's worth risking getting something else screwed up to replace the top.

If you take it to a competant(sp??) mechanic they should not screw anything else up, if they do its on them.

Any ideas as to the cause? I don't want to have to get this fixed more than once.

Manufacturer defect IMO. It has something to do with a sharp edge just underneath that tear. Thats about all I know, I have an AP1 original top with 2 small tears but they sit just behind the window at the bottom of the top.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge can chime in.

I finally went to the dealer today. The service manager claims that a guy from Honda needs to look at it to approve the repair. They're supposed to call me later in the week to schedule an appointment.

The tear has been growing slowly. This does not seem to be the typical friction wear seen in other tops. I think it's due to one of the bars not folding correctly and putting extra tension on the top when it retracts.

That spot is the common wear spot. When the top is down, there is a frame hinge that has a burr on it that will rub against it due to vibrations. This slight tear gets worse due to a frame bar that rubs against the top when it is going down or up.

I had my top replaced due to the same thing a couple months ago. The dealer also put some felt tape over the pieces that were rubbing against the top so it wouldnt happen again*fingers crossed*. They shouldnt give you any issues, especially when you have such a new car. Keep us updated.

Sorry to hear... I had the same problem this past summer and the dealership replaced it under warranty no questions asked. Afterwards, I also put a piece of felt on/near the old wear spots and everything has been good since!
And also just to be extra cautious, I don't put the top down as much even though it may defeat the purpose of a convertible, I'd rather be careful than sorry.

Anyway, good luck with your top!
