Doesn't sound like the same problem. Nothing rubs on the spot that it is torn on my top. It seems to be an issue with the last tensioning hoop not folding correctly and stretching it.

Heard back from the service manager. Honda has a patch kit that they're going to use. I'm not satisfied with this, as it's treating the symptom and not the cause.

I'm going to try to get in direct contact with the Honda rep. I want an agreement that if it tears again (and it will) that they'll replace it.

I had the same problem as you ~ 8 months ago. I went to an upholstery shop and they repaired it for $58. I might have to go again because I see some more developing.

get a hard top.

The Honda dealer has decided to replace the top! This is the conclusion that I assumed we'd get to, but I expected to let them try at patching it. I think two things led to it:
1) the tear has grown enough that the patch would be visible.
2) they found a TSB describing the tension bar folding problem.

I've got a nice new top installed, but the same problem with folding. I think it would only be a matter of time before this one would tear as well. I'll head back to the dealer next week.

I'm surprised they gave you such a hard time being that you have the original warranty..

See, I paid 2500$ for my HondaCare Warranty (I have an 03 purchased with 37k Miles) and They are giving me the run around.

It's true that it's normal for tops to wear, but not rip in the same spot for every s2k. Even some that are only a year old..

Oh well, keep us updated on how you make out.

dang i just had the same proplem at the exact same spot. i took it to honda and they took pictures, said they gona send it to the rep and wait for approval. they dint want to do it at first but i told them i just bought the car new less than a year ago. they're gona call me to make an appointment on the 1st. im just worried it will happen again after warranty is over. do you guys think they're gona do something to fix this proplem? like better design or something.

Doubt it- why would they take the time to do it when the car is at the end of its life cycle? It may be something to do with the glass window since that required a modification of the original design.

That spot is the common wear spot. When the top is down, there is a frame hinge that has a burr on it that will rub against it due to vibrations. This slight tear gets worse due to a frame bar that rubs against the top when it is going down or up.

I had my top replaced due to the same thing a couple months ago. The dealer also put some felt tape over the pieces that were rubbing against the top so it wouldnt happen again*fingers crossed*. They shouldnt give you any issues, especially when you have such a new car. Keep us updated.
nice tip im going to put felt tape on mine right now so it dosn't happen at all
