Default towing

I was wondering if it's bad to tow your s2k with the two rear wheels on the ground. Can someone please explain why it's bad to have the rear wheels on the ground? Also why it's bad to tow front wheels drive vehicles.

Thanks.

it has something to do with towing with the drive wheels on the ground. somebody else will be able to shed more light on this.

The diff will get destroyed if you tow with the rear wheels on the ground.

Flat bed only for the S.

You'll destroy your diff if you tow with the back wheels on the ground.
You'll destroy your front bumper (it's too low) if you tow with the front wheels on the ground.

the reason that it is bad is because the rear wheels causes the driveline to spin and cause the trans and diff to heat up. flatbed is the way to go

Even though you disengage the gear shift, the axles and driveshaft will still be a'whirlin'. They actually sell driveshafts for people who tow their vehicle with all wheels on the ground (ie. behind an RV/motorhome) http://www.drivetrain.com/remco.html scroll to Axle-Lock Coupling to see what I'm talking about.

You could potentially have something like this on the S if it were a recurring need to tow it by the rear wheels, but it's just easier and safer to go with a flatbed truck or trailer.

Whats the difference when towing the car on the rear wheels OR letting the car run downhill in neutral? don't see the difference here...

doesnt the trans and diff normally get hot while driving also?

I think it has something to do with the disign of the ring & pinion ? it's only good if the pinion is turning the ring gear but the ringgear using for turning the pinion would be bad?

But then again, if you let the car run downhill in a street while in neutral this would be bad also?

It's the pure distance I believe. If you were towing an S2k just down the street I can't imagine building up a ton of heat but if you have to move it across town to the shop then that will destroy the diff.
