Trackdays without burned alloys?
Hey guys, I'm sure there must be millions of threads about the same question but believe me I spent days on finding any useful info before posting this one so sorry if there is any
)
I learned my "get a trackday set of wheels" very quickly at my first trackday, where I brake-pouder-couted my lovely diamond-cut wheels. That was a horrible experience becouse they were actualy in very good condition. So after some proper elbowgreace-with-acid-stuff I removed the dust, well, with with the lacker as well, so I had to relacker them afterwards.
Than I managed to get another set of alloys for the trackdays, so I thought problem solved. Well, there is still a very important question...
Is there any way to enjoy a trackday on your "fancy" wheels? I'm planning to travel Europe and one day I want to do Nürburgring as well, would be weird to have the trackday set on for the whole jurney just becouse of that...also I have some great track back home in Hungary which brings up the same situation...
I heard about some great alloy greaces, are they any helpful? Or some breakpads they don't stick on the allloys, or just don't burn into them? Can I keep my wheels nice and shiny without damaging them?
Thanx guys!

Interesting. I never even knew this could be a problem. I switched out my AP2 brake pads to AP1 pads just before my first track day mostly for daily driver aesthetics. Looks like I've found another, more tangible, reason to switch OEM pads.

Here's a thread going on in the R&C subforum.

It really doesn't matter what pads you use, whatever material is flying off of them will burn the clearcoat.
I still have yet to get the baked on Carbotech crud off of my wheels. Your best bet is to wax them and then wash them right afterwards.
People have had good luck with carbotechs but ymmv as did mine.

I did a 2 day event (running stock pads) and I have a set of Volk LE28 for my track wheels, I had no issue getting them clean again. I won't be running the stock pads on my next track day, so we'll see if it's any different.
