We still may grab a beer or something sometime as he lives in my subdivision and is a fellow car guy.

After discovering that I can take it to some track events though, I'm thinking I will likely pursue an S2000 anyway, as it's a dream car and it's probably now or never for getting a clean, stock example for a price that isn't insane. More research time!

The silver lining is, I'd really prefer a color to silver... Yellow, red, or blue in that order. HOpefully I can get a chance to drive an AP1 and see if that's more my speed. I think it might be neat since it's kind of an opposite experience from my Corvette.
Yeah basically the differences in the two is:
- Corvette is a point and shoot in realatively stock form
- S2000 is a momentum car at it's heart no matter what you do to it.

Very different driving styles. If you want to become a better driver pursue the S2K.

I will tell you the S2000 is 100% the worse street car in terms of noise, nvh, squeeks, rattles, and all that. It's almost unbearable to drive on the highway for long distances IMO.

@HawkeyeGeoff Yes, I do agree with a lot of what you just said. I don't mind the S2000 as a street car and I bought it knowing it is a tight car and will make me feel everything in the road. I expected that. I have to agree that I would not want to drive this car long distances because of the seats. For whatever reason my back just doesn't like this car but it doesn't get to me unless I have been driving for an hour or so. Since most of my excursions in the S2000 are just <20 miles round trip it doesn't matter much. My parents live in a lake town that is full of convertibles and has a nice scenic drive but I haven't wanted to drive the Honda 80 miles to fit in with the other verts.

The S2000 is exactly what I thought it would be and I was willing to deal with it, the good and the "sort of" bad. A car like this was never going to be a daily for me so it fits a niche quite well.

Now I am looking at a restored 1978 Datsun 280Z to add to the stable. It was one of those things that you spy parked at a house, give the guy your card and tell him to call when it is for sale.

They're both pretty terrible street cars in their own rights, but what can I say, I'm a man deep into self-loathing when it comes to cars.

The Corvette isn't as good as you'd think. It scrapes on EVERYTHING, the smallest elevation change and you're nearly ripping the front bumper off. The ride is also pretty bad, and the interior (C5) is just hideous. It is pretty nice on the highway at 80 MPH, 1700 RPMs though. I think an S2000 is a better daily in town, Corvette on highway. At the end of the day though, both are really fun cars and I'm OK with sacrificing comfort for that, since I really only drive my personal car on weekends.

I really appreciate how candid this forum is, most car specific forums are all "OMG this is the best car ever, if you don't like it, you're a moron". The truth is, all sports cars are full of compromises that we live with if we're the type to love driving them. The S is a special car and we'll sadly never see anything like them again. It's from an era where Honda was a truly exceptional brand, whereas now them and most of the Japanese manufacturers are just pretty mediocre.
