To trade my MINI in or not to trade it in
I know I started a thread similar to this awhile ago, but this time I have a beautiful, affordable S2000 staring me right in the face.
Here's a short story-- just when I had decided to keep my car and talked myself out of buying an S2000, I drive by my local MINI dealership (of all places) and there sits a beautiful S2000. Drive up to it, it's lowered on coilovers, nice wheels. Go inside and ask someone about it. 2007, low miles, drives like a dream, perfect color and interior.
The S2000 is a 2007 with upgrades mentioned above, and 40,000 miles. It looks to be in pretty good condition, perfect carfax, but of course I need to get it inspected before anything happens.
They wanted $25,500 out the door and I got them down to $24,300 initially. I then offered a trade in (2010 MINI Cooper S with 11,500 miles), and they wanted to give me $21,000 for my car. So initially it was about $3,800 out the door with tax. I then countered with $2,000 out the door and they countered $3,000 out the door, lowest price they will give me.
I can sell the mods on my car and get (around) $2,800.
Here are some pictures

What I want to know from you all is if I should go on and do it. Do you think it is worth it to trade in a basically new car (I am the only owner) with low mileage and newer year, for a car that is 2007 with 40,000 miles, I would be the 3rd owner.
I really want this car and I think it tells me something that I still come back to wanting it after over a year.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

I wonder what coilovers its on. Those wheels are nice. If the car is worth it TO YOU, then take it. I just spanked a Cooper S last Saturday
. RWD is very win!
Edit: The top looks a bit roughed up. I'd check the insides for wear spots, although I'm not sure if the MY07 has the same top wearing issues as AP1s.

I was wondering what kind of coils were on there too... I may go ask tomorrow. Was the race vs. the cooper s in the twisties or strait line? Strait line, I think my cooper wins out (with mods), but I'm not sure about the twisties, with the S2000 having RWD and 50/50 weight distr. but who knows. Test drive was fun but I didn't get to unwind it much (only hit vtec once) and didn't really get any twisties action.
And actually, I thought $24,000 sounded like a lot too, but it's actually a very good price for what it is (mods, good condition, low miles, sold at a dealer) and that is "excellent" price for private, so I'm not disappointed about the price.

Those mods don't add any to the cost of the car at a dealer, I would take money off for the mods. Also with three owners and the mods left on the car(most people take the mods off and put the car back to stock), you can bet its been driven hard.

since your MINI is paid off, i would try and sell it out outright private party sale and take your time finding an S if you do want to change cars.
set up correctly the MINI is very capable (a JCW cooper is one of the fastest in our autox region and its stock)
straight line the S will pull it though, but the MINI does have lots more usable torque down low.
