I think the idea of a "long term test" on a first model year is absurd.

How is that absurd? Are you that numb that your expectations for an automobile manufacturer are not to produce a quality car the first time around?

Why do people keep saying the my00 is the worse off? Mine is still perfect at 30k miles....From reliability reviews of the 00 it didnt't seem like it had many customer complaints which is pretty good for a 1st year car. I think all you hear are the owners who have had problems and not the ones who are running perfect.

Falling out of favor with a previous love is why we have lawyers and test drives.

Let's hope your Monday morning S2000 wasn't traded for a Friday afternoon Z.

As an ex-350z Track owner who still consistently check My350z.com, my bet is that you have went from unlucky to stupid. The 350z, even current 04's still have the same problems as the 03. What's worse, if you try to bring your car to the dealership, they will tell you the suspension was changed for 04 and therefore your tires won't be replaced. I am not trying to bash you but i just can't imagine how you can decide on the car when you said you have done much research. Just go to my350z.com>>Repair and you will see the emergence of complaints from 04 Zs. However, if you did get a good Z, I can speak on behave of all current and ex Z owners that that 100x more rare than a good 00 S.

BTW, I currently do not own either of the cars.
