Changing out the break in oil is a very good idea. I changed mine at 4.5k miles and it looked horrible. I would advise anyone to change out their break in fluids (tranny or diff) as soon as possible. I don't believe it's necessary, but a good thing to do.

How many miles do you guys go before changing the fluids?
for me:
Engine oil: Mobil 1 synthetic every 3000
Diff: Mobil 1 synthetic 75/90 every 10000
Tranny: Honda MTF Will probably change it every 20000 from now on

 

I don't think you can go wrong with this (unless you track the car). I change mine the same as your schedule, except I do my tranny and diff annually. It so happens that I put on about 10K miles per year.
BTW, the annual tranny oil change for me is overkill, but what the heck, it's easy enough and cheap too.

 

Engine oil: 2.7-3k miles (depending on how dirty the oil is)
Tranny: 6-7k miles (depending on notchiness)
Diff: 8-9k miles
