If you don't have the problem, then there is nothing to fix. From what I hear the problem is a tolerance stacking problem. If you have parts that are at the limits of tolerance, you could have problems. If your parts are well within those tolerances, then you will not have a problem.

When they put in a new 1st and 2nd gear, the new gears could be closer to the edges of (a, hopefully, reduced) tolerance than your existing gears and, hence, make your transmission worse.

If you're not having problems, you probably never will. If you replace parts unnecessarily... your odds of having problems go up.

I don't have the 1-2 grind and so I'm not going to get it fixed. The seatbelts are fine as well and so I'm dragging my feet on the recall as well. It ticks me off that the car I've been so anal about (I'm not usually anal about cars) will have to be taken apart for the seat belt recall. Maybe I'll wait until they fail. The question is will they all fail?
