Well, sure enough, as I rolled over 20k miles I am now getting "clubking" when I am coasting slowly and shift between 1st 2nd and 3rd gears... the whole car shutters a bit... if I rev match and downshift everything is smooth... and when accellerating (slowly, or quick) from a stop 1 to 2 to 3 everything is fine... it's only when coasting slowly (so far)... any ideas what this could be? needless to say I'll be dropping it off tomorrow, so it can spend yet another 2-3 weeks at Honda while they probably again tell me their loaner cars are "all gone" and don't offer a rental.

If it weren't such a beautiful car and such a joy to drive I would be fed up by now and never consider another honda again due to the tranny going kaput 2 times in 20k miles, and the local dealership's poor service. One thing's for certain, It will not be in my posession when 36k miles come around... wonder what I could get trade in on a '02 model next year....

Hey I am getting my car out of shop tomorow I just got the entire Tranny replaced. The reason i took it in is cause it felt funny from 5th to 6th i talked to the tech he said the Sycros were out.. So i got them replaced and third gear also. So your not the only one with the prob.. talked to the tech said it is smooth now .

Thanks for the info.. Just so I know, is there ANY way a person could cause synchros to fail? I can already hear them trying to blame me as this is the second time the car has been there (first time for 2nd gear TSB).

Thanks in advance
Brian

well if you a gear really bad it will knock it out. I kept missing 2nd cause the first dealership did not fix it correctly (this is acording to the Tech at honda) so if you tell them that 2nd keeps grinding then that should be the reason for the Sycros going out

Brian,

if you were to force the level into gear with no clutch, thus letting the synchros take the brunt, that could wreck the synchros...

man, and you were afraid of me breaking your car! 2 cars with 2 trannys going boom in such a short time... hmm, might have to start making fun of you

I wonder if you weren't trying to run a 12.3 @ 118 out of the S2000?

you know I'm just razzing you. But you say I shift fast...

Now you know how I feel, somewhat. I've pretty much accepted the fact that it won't be as reliable as a typical Honda. And I know how you feel about the crappy dealer, which is why I drive about 30 miles EACH way to go to a dealer that I feel comfortable with.

As for what your car is worth, well since you'd be trading up it would be worth more than mine, because they would just be able to take it off their silly markups on the the 02.

My list in only the 4k I've owned the car has been...

1) catalytic converter heat shield
2) Clutch
3) Water pump
4) auto-down feature, which lately has been working.

I did get the rear window replaced, so I won't count that because it was a "customer service"...

and I've been getting a gear grind if I try to shift it fairly quick from 1-2. Not lightning fast, but quick. I was racing around a turn against a friend's Eclipse GT and it wouldn't go into 2nd. The Eclipse won because it was an auto

but they know...

anyhow, its an intermittent problem so I can live with it. My WRX might be here next Monday... so its not worth getting the S2000 fixed. Just let the dealer deal with it when the "absorb the cost of making it ready to sell".
