Transition of each model of the S2000
Hi guys,
I'm from Hong Kong and I'm encountering a 2003 S2000 with everything that looks like a 2004 one. For reference, please check out the pics in this url:
http://www.28car.com/sell_dsp.php?h_id=249...w=1&h_srh=s2000
(just click the pics)
I've done some research on the net and it seems like the 2003 model should not have the revised front and rear bumper along with the headlights, red/black seats, leather centre compartment etc etc.
In my opinion this one looks like a 2004 model (but I do not know much). I am interested in getting the one from the url, but I want to make sure it's not a 'fraud'.
Is it possible that maybe an S2k that's manufactured at the end of 2003 may look like this?
Pls help out cuz I'm gonna check out this car tmr.
Thank you all!
Regards,
dickers

some people convert the exterior of the ap1(1999-2003) to look like the exterior of the ap2 (2004-2008) by adding the ap2 bumpers and front/rear lights. i coulndnt really open the link but i also saw 2004. you should check out the car yourself before buying. good luck on you purchase

although it says 2004, they actually say it's 'one year newer' on purpose. it's how they do it in hong kong.
my point is...is it possible that this s2000 is manufactured at the end of year 2003? is there a difference between the s2k's at the beginning of 03 and the end of the same year?
i'm not sure about asia, because i know japan has had the 9000 rpm s2000's until 2006. here in america we have the 2.2 liter 8000rpm ap2 which didnt happen in japan till 2006. this is as much as i know... i'm sorry i'm not really much help.

I agree, the poeple selling it may be going off the mfr date instead of what it was sold as. They may have started building the AP2 (04 model)chassis in 03. Anyone here have an 04 built in 03?

Hong Kong only starts selling 2004 models in 2004. The car models are classified by the production / import year. So if the car came off the assembly line and was imported in 1999, it's an 1999 S2000. Theoretically, you could have an 2003 AP2.
Nevertheless, don't worry about 2004+ S2000s, because those are all grey market imported in Hong Kong. HK dealers stopped importing S2000s in 2004. The one you are looking at is 2004-2005 JDM AP1, which is basically a US AP2 with the F20c engine and the AP1 tranny ratio (but has the newer synchros) and clutch delay valve

Anyway, it's a legitimate 2004 model. That one is not a converted one. The easiest thing to see is to look at little things like the gauge cluster, horn under the hood, etc. Those are such small things that are not worth it for people to convert or may simply be difficult to change. If you must really check, then jack the car up and see if it has an 2000-2003 clutch slave cylinder or a later one. Also, the valve cover says "Honda DOHC VTEC" instead of the "H" logo with DOHC VTEC. Good luck with your car!
I'm happy there is another 2004+ S2K in HK, but also upset cuz mine isn't so exclusive anymore when it's also white hehehehhee
