Default Transmission Rebuilding

Hello S2k community,
I'm not a sponsor just a member of this site, however after rebuilding my Transmission I was wondering if anyone was interested in getting thiers rebuilt. I was discussing this with the guy who rebuilt my Transmission. The gentlemen responsible for rebuilding my transmission was looking to rebuild more S2000 transmissions. He mentioned he would be willing to rebuild S2000 transmissions with possible synchro-like issues or other minor/similar issues. This is only a judging interest thread, and if enough interest is generated I may start rebuilding the S2000 transmissions with this gentlemen from North East Transmission and Engine Repair.

Have him throw upgraded synchros in the AP1 transmissions and he'll do well.

Have him do some dog-ring gear swaps, while he's at it too.

How can you tell if your synchors are going out?

I guess grinding, difficulty getting into gear, and bad notchiness

Grinding or having a hard time getting into gear are the common symptoms. For example I have had about a dozen times where I have ground the gear going into 2nd with the clutch fully depressed.

Which is...???

A Search on "Transmission Bearing" reveals many posts, but mostly on the throwout bearing.

This one. My original AP1 trans had it BAD at about 120k. I replaced it with another AP1 trans with a claimed 16k on it and now I'm starting to notice the very faint noise coming back with 168k on it. It always had good Honda fluid in both transmissions. I just switched to Amsoil in hope that it will prolong the life a little bit. I killed 3 transaxles in my old car using the "good factory fluid" before switching to a high performance synthetic (granted it was handling a good bit more power than stock, but still). I should have learned my lesson on this factory fluid snake oil crap then, but I stuck with it on this car and it has let me down again. The Amsoil feels sooo much better. If I replace this trans it will be an AP2 box and only get good fluid.

I'm not aware of (or can't immediately recall) any aftermarket /upgraded synchros for the S2000 but I'll have to look into this.

I'll have to look into some dog-ring/straight cut gear sets. He was more focused on rebuilding using only OEM parts, for numerous reasons.
