Default Tree sap on the convertible top, HELP!

I went to a couple of stores to get some 303 cleaner, as suggested in a past thread on S2KI, but I couldn't find any. So I tried the 3M vinyl cleaner. It took some of the sap off, but not completely. And it looks like it's leaving dark spots on my top.

Anybody has suggestions?

If you had some 303 or similar product on your top prior to the sap, it should come off with a good car wash and warm water. I had a similar problem, and Zaino car wash (Z7) took it right off.

You may want to try a clay bar.

I'd try a little mechanic's "waterless hand cleaner." (Gunk, GoJo, etc. The orange based ones smell better.) The stuff is really good at tar, pitch, grease, etc. Just get the kind without pumice; you don't want abrasives. Rub it on, let it sit, rinse it off. Might not work, but the stuff is pretty good and relatively harmless.

Beat me to it!

Re: the tree sap on the top. I've always washed the top when I wash the rest of the car, with car wash soap and warm water. This cleans the top appropriately. Twice a year, I'll put some kind of protectant on the top. Always make sure the top is clean before putting the protectant on. If there is some stain, the protectant will only seal it in.

As long as the top is well lubricated, the clay bar should work. Just call Mother's 714-891-3364 to confirm.

I just called 303 Products to inquire about the retailers in my area and their technical guy recommended I dab a cloth with paint thinner and use it to remove the stain.

What do you think?
