Juzt to correct the OP, you are comparing the Ap2 2.2L to the Ap1 2.0 L, which is similar to the European 2.0L. While power ratings seem pretty similar, the AP2 2.2L motor seems to put down more power to wheels when measured on a dyno, and we know it makes more torque.

Yeah, what's the fun of a "high rev'ing" engine that redlines at only 8.2k? Even my M3 redlines higher.

Do you people sit in parking lots and rev your engines all day?

OP - the engines make near abouts the same power and Honda only ever released on HP number - 240 in the USA (250 in Japan with higher compression), later revised by the new standards to 237, although dynos show a slight power bump every two years or so in the engine due to tweaks, ECU refinements, etc.

Could not be more appropriate. I'm thinking of the "why don't you just make 10 louder, make 10 be the top number, and make that a little louder?" Maybe Honda recognized the wisdom in this when developing the AP2?

I think all they recognized was the American thirst for torque

Or the fact that normal people cringe when they hear a car rev past 6k. I know when i took my uncle for a ride he was yelling at me to shift shift shift! LoL.

Also the OP has not commented back to clarify exactly which engines he is talking about. Was it a typo and he ment to type "old 2.0 vtec" or was he talking about the old H22 2.2L vtec engines?

This is dead on too. I remember the first time I rode my Yamaha R6 after learning on a little Twin aircooled with a 9k redline. I felt like I was murdering that thing winding it out to 10k, and I still had gobs of revs to go.
