Default True cost of ownership

I was just looking over my maintenance records, after having the car for just over 7 years (and ~35k miles). Since a lot of people ask about maintenance costs and such, I figured I'd share some of my numbers. Bought the car new in July 2002.

Maintenance: $895
9 oil/filter changes (mobil1 10w30)
6 manual transmission fluid changes (honda mtf)
3 air filters
4 sets of wiper blades
3 diff fluid changes (mobil1 70w90)
2 valve adjustments (diy)
2 cabin air filters
1 battery
1 set of brake pads (f/r)
1 alignment

Tires: $1710
new rear tires at 10774 miles (S02s)
new tires (4) at 19735 miles (PS2s)
new rear tires at 26243 miles (PS2s)
(another set coming up soon)

Here's my repair log for the life of the car (all under warranty):
Convertible top tear (July 05)
Driver's side window regulator replaced(July 05)
Rear axle "pop" (June 06)
Clutch master cylinder (March 09)

I was also pretty surprised to see the total I've spent on mods/extras for my car - $6700. I don't consider mine a heavily modded car by any stretch, but that's the total for all of my purchases - audio/security, exhaust, wheels, coilovers, etc. It definitely adds up over time...

All said, maintenance, upgrades, and the original purchase total about $47k. Allowing a conservative $12k for the current value, it's cost me about $5k/year to own (not counting gas or insurance).

I didn't think it was bad at all. We're talking a little over $400/month. Mostly upgrades and depreciation, the maintenance itself has been very reasonable. No complaints here...

Nice thread btw, but in my opinion I don't consider mods as a part of cost for ownership, looking at the maintenance cost + tires I think the cost of ownership has been very reasonable.

Wow and you changed your MT fluid WAY more often than necessary and still under $1K in maintenance costs. Doing your own maintenance FTW!

I've had my S2000 just over 3 years and 17,000 miles and I've spent:
1 MTF change ($12)
2 diff fluid changes ($15)
4 oil changes ($110)
New fuel supply line (damn mice chewed it) $30
New Tires (RS-2) $375
Coolant ($12)
2 brake fluid flushes ($20)
PS flush ($25)

TOTAL: $199.66 per year!

Extras:
$300 (AP1 front lip)
$100 (Ricks JDM clear corners)
$10 (Amber LED parking lights)
$30 (JDM clear side markers and amber LEDs_)
$30 (128 db air horns )

Total Extras: $470 ($156/year)

Granted it helps only putting about 6,000 miles a year on the car but that's a cheap sport car to maintain!

On a car with electric power steering? (remember the EPS light on the dash cluster)

That seems fishy to me.

subtract the market vlaue for your aftermarket parts... wheels and coilovers etc. since the market for s2000 parts thru this site is great
