About 10-30 seconds after everytime I close my trunk, I hear a popping sound from the trunk. Anybody else experiencing this? It sounds like one of the trunk tensioner rods is adjusting. It's not a long sound, just a single pop.

I've heard this before. I think it's electric motor mechanism resetting itself for another open.

My guess...

No sound but I did notice yesterday that if you close the door with the top up the trunks pops up for just a split second....I mean this baby is sealed tight!

RedVinesRanch, it's not a spring sound. Open your trunk and look at the inside where it connects to the car. You'll see several criss-crossing rods that act on the tensioner for the trunk. It sounds like their popping when I close the lid.

SilverSurfer, so what's the deal on the seat belt recall. According to the TSB, it's for all 2000 S2000's. I assume at some point I'll receive a notice from Honda?

that's interesting, I get the sound when I open the trunk all the way. When I lift up the trunk to open all the way (after "popping" with the remote or interior button) the tensioner rods make the sound. Doesn't happen when I close it.

Same here on my '01. Your right in thinking it is the tension rods. Haven't really looked into seeing if I can stop the noise (it's really no big deal).

My Prelude has a similar spring system. The trunk on that car is perfectly balanced requiring almost no effort to close the trunk, works very well. The action is quiet and smooth. If this is what Honda was shooting for, the Engineers missed.

Hmm... Good point. I had forgotten about that. I remember Honda replaced some trunk clip everytime I brought my car in for service. Of course, I never found the missing clips; which I can't explain. Perhaps, it's the same sort of thing with the S2000.

It is the tension springs, they are supposed to have a tie wrap in the center, to keep them together. My car did it until they put the tie wrap back on it.
