I've asked about this several times and every time I know I'm getting this blank (deer in the headlights) look 'cause no one replys. Glad to know I'm not alone.
I will say that when I first got the Stook, the sound waited a while before happening, so I wasn't sure what it was. Now it just happens right after I close the trunk. Guess I'll check out this "tie" thing.

Red_S2K, Are you talking about plain old tie wraps like you buy in a hardware store? Or something from Honda. You wouldn't by chance have a digital camera and take a few shot of what you're talking about would you?

I just went and looked at the tension rods. In my car, the rear rod has a rubber sheath in the middle section (very large part of middle section). With the trunk open, these rods make a "squashed" X. If you watch when you close the trunk, the rods flatten out and eventually (on mine, anyway) one goes below the other. When the trunk is released initially (remote or interior button), tension must be released and this forces the trunk open a little bit. I looked through the opening while I lifted the trunk the rest of the way and the popping sound comes from the lower rod slipping past the rod with the rubber sheath. I found if I open the trunk real slow, there is no popping sound - the rods slip past each other without a sound.

I am not sure if a tie wrap would stop this sound or not.

BTW, I have a MY01.

I had the same problem. I bent one of the rods a bit by pushing the rod towerd the front of the car and never had the sound again.

Avi, Thanks for the tip. I just went to the garage and stuck my fingers between the sheathed rod and the one without. So, basically I bent the tensioner rod ever so slightly. No More popping sound!!!!

I used to have that sound as well. I believe it is the tensioner rods, when i had my seat belt recall done the noise went away.
I never had the noise until I had the seat belts fixed!

Yes it was a black tie wrap, it keeps the 2 tension bars together at the rubber piece from rubbing.

Do all of you that have the popping sound have the rear spoiler? The spoiler is a dealer installed option and part of the install is to replace the torsion rods. I wonder of there was originally a tie-wrap or clip that was removed when the rods were replaced. Can someone without a rear spoiler confirm if there is a factory installed tie-wrap or clip at the crossover point?
