Trunk release disable possible?
First morning in the car and I realized that it is pretty hard to securely lock the trunk. Just pop open the inside console and the trunk is open. My old Miata had a deadbolt feature which prevented anything but the key from opening it. I keep my briefcase, etc in there and am nervous about how easy it is to get in.
So, is it possible to disable the inside button while still keeping the key fob thing active? While it's still possible to jack open the trunk with force, but is much harder and more visible than getting into a plastic console.
I'm hoping it has a dedicated fuse, but thinking it's not so simple.

you can pull the button out and remove the + lead and tape it off. the button will no longer work.
i did something similar with the door lock in my GSR. it has an up/down switch and it made breaking in easy. i pulled the switch and disabled the UNLOCK.

I believe Modifry had a great alternative.
Essentially, the button in the glove box to open the trunk is live all the time. However, the accessory socket is only powered when the key is in the on 'accessory' or 'on.' Splicing a couple of the wires allows the button to only be operated when the key is in the car.
It appears as though Modifry's website has moved, or is not currently available. You might want to PM him directly, unless he's available to post a new web address here.
This mod makes sense to me. If the key is in the ignition, then I might want to use the button in the glove box. If the car is not running, I would not want the trunk to be operated from inside the car much of the time. But with the trunk button on the key fob, all's good.
I hope this helps.

Here is Modifry's website. It appears to be down right now. However, I just found this address on a recent thread, so I would imagine it is a temporary outtage.

btw, just checked the link to Modifry's site and it works. It does indeed answer all questions and clearly details out where to splice. All without even taking off the center console, which is what I had planned on doing. Very nice tips on that site

$5 at Radio Shack for some wire and wire-taps. Job took about 10 minutes and my trunk is now much more secure. Now I can go shopping after work and keep things locked up a bit more securely. Must do fix imo
Thanks again for the great link!

Glad to see this solution worked out for you Mark.
I'll be doing this as well when I get my '05.
I checked back at Modifry's website and read through this mod. He does a great job with instructions for these types of things. Check out his shift indicator mod that he sells. I think I'll be adding that as well.
