Default Trunk rods?

Does anyone know what those horizontal rods just above the spare tire are for? Just curious.

What is changed about them when you install the spoiler? Mine consistently "pop" in and out of place when I open and close the trunk. Maybe they didn't get changed???

It works like torsion bar. It is changed to a thicker bar when the weight of the spoiler is added to the trunk.

So if this wasn't done could that result in the bars catching on each other and "popping" apart when the trunk lid is opened?

What do you mean pop in and out of place. They should normally move since they are attached to the trunk support arm, but they should not "pop" or move in an uncontrolled manner.

There is no way to look at them and tell if they were changed during the rear spoiler install. There is a tool that you can buy for 4-5 dollars that allows you to remove and install them .

When i installed the rear spoiler mysef the only way I could tell them apart from the original rod was the sticker with the part nuber being on the new rods.

The only difference when you install the new rods is for the trunk to open slightly and you can normally tell if you hold the trunk lid less than half way up and it stays you probably have the stronger rods

I had that once before. I had too much stuff in my trunk and it started to making popping sound. after many trys of bending it back and forth, I finally got it right and it does not make that sound any more.

Silicone spray every few weeks where the two bars cross keeps mine from making the "pop"

I have a rear spoiler and mine makes a pop. Its like the bars are touching really hard and then they become free.
