ok realy simple fix, i dont have an s2k but this normally works on all cars.
Get a 3-5 inch piece of vacum line from your auto parts store, just big enough to fit around the rod.
slice the hose length wise, and wrap it around one of the bars were the two make contact. if you want you could probably use a SMALL amount of vasilene on the out side of the hose so it dosnt squeek or rub through real fast.
i did it to my mazda over a year ago, and no problems since.
